Technical Assistance Grants (Second Round) - Awarded November 8, 2007

 As part of the Florida LUCA Program, the Florida Department of Community Affairs will be awarding technical assistance grants to local governments in order to ensure that necessary resources are available for local governments to participate in the the Census Bureau's LUCA program. 

 These grants may be used for, but are not limited to:
        temporary staffing or overtime;
        contractual assistance from other government agencies; and
        technology used to facilitate the review.

These technical assistance grants shall be awarded by November 9, 2007 and preference shall be given to consolidated requests from counties that include requests from the cities within their boundaries.  Applications are due to the Florida Department of Community Affairs by 5 pm EDT October 26, 2007.

The first Technical Assistance Grant application period for LUCA closed on July 13. Over 70 applications covering more than 200 local governments were received and are being reviewed;  however, it is important to remember the official registration with the U.S. Census Bureau for LUCA should begin soon.

Invitation letters and registration packets are scheduled to be mailed to cities and counties from the U.S. Census Bureau in August. They will be addressed to the highest elected official. Watch for yours and register for LUCA.

Remember, applying for a Florida Technical Assistance Grant and registering for LUCA with the U.S. Census Bureau are separate steps. Every local government is encouraged to register for LUCA to update their addresses on the U.S. Census Bureau’s Master Address File (MAF).

For local governments that are awarded grants, the funds may be used for, but are not limited to:
        Temporary staffing or overtime
        Contractual assistance from other government agencies
        Technology used to facilitate the review
